TDOC Releases Serving Macon County
The Tennessee Department of Correction is a statewide felony correctional system. It is not the Macon County Jail, and no TDOC prison was found inside Macon County. A person sentenced into TDOC may be placed at different state facilities as the agency updates custody. In some cases, a person serving a TDOC felony sentence can be housed in a county jail. The sentence authority and FOIL record, not the building name alone, determine whether the state path applies.
Leaving TDOC confinement can lead to parole, determinate release, mandatory reentry supervision, sentence expiration, another custody system, or a different authorized status. Parole and probation usually mean the person is outside prison but remains under community supervision. An inactive record can reflect an endpoint, but the exact reason should come from the detail record or TDOC response. Full discharge is distinct from physical release.

Confirm a TDOC Macon Release
The Felony Offender Information Lookup, or FOIL, is the correct public locator for a person currently or formerly in TDOC custody or supervision. Search by TDOC ID or State ID Number when either is known. A name search takes a last name and can add a first name, aliases, and race. The form uses a case-sensitive CAPTCHA.
- Identify the person with a TDOC ID, SID, or a carefully matched name.
- Compare the photo, identifiers, offense, status, and location before opening a result.
- Read status, sentence facts, parole-hearing information, and release information together.
- Treat a future release eligibility date as a milestone, not an actual release.
- For parole or probation, confirm the serving office through TDOC District 31.
- If the endpoint remains unclear, request sentence or archived information from TDOC.
FOIL is not a source for every Macon misdemeanor or pretrial jail stay. If the person only appeared in county custody, use Sheriff Joey Wilburn’s booking and release record and the Macon court case. TDOC Macon Release Record Fields
TDOC’s overview says FOIL may include an offender photograph, status, location, offense, sentence information, parole-hearing status, and release information. The display also carries an accuracy and timeliness warning. Use wording such as “FOIL reports” when describing a current result. One stale or blank field should not be converted into an absolute claim.
The research did not verify that every live detail screen shows a label literally called Projected Release Date. Release Eligibility Date is the governing concept supported by Tennessee law. Eligibility is the time when consideration or another statutory mechanism may become possible. Sentence expiration is a separate date. Actual release is established by a past agency event and status.

TDOC Macon Sentence Record Requests
When FOIL does not answer the exact sentence or discharge question, use the TDOC sentence-information request. The agency separates state-prison requests from county-jail felony requests. Choose Offender Information and Sentence Information for a state-prison offender. Include County Jail when the person is serving a TDOC felony sentence in a county facility. The page lists fax 615-259-3783, and fax responses are mailed, so a mailing address is required.
Historical state offender files go through the TDOC archived-record request and its GovQA portal. A parole decision that has not become clear in FOIL belongs with the Tennessee Board of Parole or its public-record route. A Macon judgment remains with the court clerk, while the Sheriff holds the county booking and release entry. Each custodian should receive a focused request for an existing record.

Note: A county booking photo and a TDOC offender photo are different records and should be requested from the agency that created each one.
TDOC Macon Release Date Rules
Tennessee does not use one universal 85 percent rule. Tenn. Code § 40-35-501 ties eligibility to the offense, offense date, range, classification, and sentence. It contains ordinary percentages such as 20, 30, 35, 45, and 60 percent where applicable. Other provisions impose offense-specific 85 or 100 percent service requirements. Those categories cannot be applied to every Macon offender.
Section 41-21-236 governs sentence-reduction credits and exclusions. Credits may be earned, withheld, or lost. Consecutive sentences, pretrial jail credit, amended judgments, disciplinary events, detainers, and statutory changes can also affect the practical date. A credit can change eligibility differently from sentence expiration.
Determinate release and mandatory reentry supervision are additional, case-specific routes. Mandatory reentry supervision under § 40-35-506 applies to covered offense dates and can place part of a sentence in the community. It is still supervision. The exact judgment and current law must be matched before a date is described.
TDOC Macon Post-Release Supervision
TDOC Community Supervision District 31 serves Macon County felony parole and probation from 851 S. Willow Avenue, Suite 202, Cookeville, TN 38501. The office phone is 931-526-7165 and fax is 931-528-3267. TDOC also lists a courtesy-reporting location at 902 Highway 52 Bypass East in Lafayette. No public Lafayette TDOC phone or hours are posted, so call Cookeville before visiting.
Macon misdemeanor probation is different. It is operated through the Circuit Court Clerk and is not TDOC parole or felony probation. Read the judgment to identify the correct office. A person can be physically released from TDOC while still having a parole, probation, reentry, or reporting obligation. FOIL and the supervising office establish that distinction.
The Board of Parole posts weekly hearing schedules, normally updated Monday or Tuesday after a Monday holiday. A hearing listing is not a grant. A grant is not always immediate release because plan approval, a detainer, or rescission can intervene. Check FOIL after processing and contact the Board when a formal decision record is needed.
TDOC Has No Macon Prison
No state prison was found physically in Macon County. Trousdale Turner Correctional Center must not be treated as a Macon facility merely because its street address contains “Macon Way.” It is in Hartsville, Trousdale County. TDOC can assign a Macon offender to different facilities, so FOIL is the dynamic location source.
A person leaving the Macon County Jail for TDOC has been released from county custody but remains confined under the state system. Ask the Sheriff for the destination field, then use FOIL. If the person later leaves TDOC for parole, supervision runs through the state structure. If a detainer sends the person to federal or immigration custody, follow that receiving agency instead of calling the TDOC exit a community release.
The receiving facility may change during the sentence. A saved location from an old search should not be treated as current. Return to FOIL and match the identifier again. If the state record conflicts with a local release entry, compare their event dates and ask the agency that owned each part of the custody path.
