District 31 After Macon Release
TDOC District 31 administers state felony community supervision for Macon County from its Cookeville field office. It can serve people released on parole, determinate release, mandatory reentry supervision, or state felony probation. These are community statuses. They are not continued incarceration at the District 31 office, and the office should never be described as a detention facility.
Physical release and sentence discharge are not the same. Parole permits an eligible person to serve part of a sentence in the community under Board of Parole conditions and TDOC supervision. Probation is imposed by a court, either instead of confinement or after a split sentence. Determinate release and mandatory reentry supervision are other Tennessee mechanisms that can place someone in the community while state correctional duties remain. An inactive or expired sentence reflects a different endpoint from active parole or probation.
The most useful verification reads status, location, sentence information, and release information together. A person shown at a supervision office is not still held in a prison merely because a TDOC record remains active. Conversely, disappearance from a county jail source does not prove that the person entered District 31 supervision. The Sheriff release destination, court judgment, and FOIL record must align.
Search District 31 Supervision Records
TDOC’s Felony Offender Information Lookup, known as FOIL, covers felony offenders currently or formerly in TDOC custody or supervision. It does not cover an ordinary Macon misdemeanor probation case or establish that a pretrial county detainee posted bond. Search by TDOC ID or State ID Number when possible because an assigned identifier is more precise than a name.
- Open FOIL and choose the ID or name route. A name search requires a last name and can include a first name, aliases, and race.
- Complete the case-sensitive CAPTCHA. Compare the photo, TDOC or SID number, demographics, offense, and location before selecting a match.
- Read status and location together. Parole or probation usually means physical incarceration ended while state supervision remains.
- Check sentence, hearing, and release information. A release-eligibility date is not a parole grant or proof of a completed release.
- Contact District 31 when FOIL identifies state supervision but the correct field office or reporting site needs confirmation.
FOIL carries an accuracy, timeliness, and completeness disclaimer. Use phrases such as “FOIL reports” when describing a result. If inactive status does not explain whether the sentence expired or another discharge event occurred, request sentence or archived records from TDOC rather than assigning a reason that is not displayed.

The Cookeville office is the published state felony supervision contact for Macon County. Staff can direct a person to the correct reporting site, but privacy and operational limits may restrict what they disclose about an individual. Call before traveling, especially when the Lafayette courtesy location is involved.

TDOC also lists a courtesy-reporting site at 902 Highway 52 Bypass East in Lafayette. The public directory does not give that location a separate phone number or public schedule. It should not be treated as a full local TDOC office or an open walk-in destination. Contact Cookeville first and follow the instructions supplied for the individual supervision record.
Two Macon Supervision Record Layers
Macon County has two locally important supervision routes. State felony parole and probation are administered through TDOC District 31. Misdemeanor probation is a separate local function operated through the Macon Circuit Court Clerk at the Justice Center. The conviction level, sentencing court, and filed judgment determine the correct office.

FOIL help warns that its Tennessee service does not simply cover every parolee or probationer from another state who lives in Tennessee. The TBI Out-of-State Parole and Probation Supervision Registry may be relevant in that narrower setting. It is not a substitute for the Macon release record or District 31 verification.
This division is practical in Lafayette. The local misdemeanor office is tied to the court record at the Justice Center. The TDOC courtesy-reporting site uses the Sheriff address, but its presence does not transfer state felony supervision to the clerk or Sheriff. Read District 31 Release Status
One status label cannot answer every release question. The FOIL detail must be read with the sentence and the agency location. A released person can remain active in TDOC’s system for years, while a person listed as inactive may need a records request before the exact discharge reason is known.

A location can name a prison or supervision office. A blank or changed location is not a county-jail release timestamp. Likewise, a future eligibility date does not mean the person will leave custody on that date. Credits, Board action, consecutive terms, discipline, release-plan review, holds, and new court orders can alter the practical result.
District 31 Parole Hearing Records
The Tennessee Board of Parole posts parole-hearing schedules for state-prison and county-jail cases. The Board says schedules are updated weekly on Monday, or Tuesday after a Monday holiday, and last-minute changes can occur. A calendar listing proves only that a hearing is scheduled. It does not prove that parole was granted or that physical release took place.
Board hearing types include grant, preliminary and final revocation, custodial, pre-parole and post-parole rescission, time-setting, and appeal matters. Outcomes may include grant, denial, deferral, revocation, reinstatement, or rescission. Even a grant can precede release-plan approval, satisfaction of pre-release conditions, resolution of a detainer, or later rescission. Check FOIL after processing and request a decision record when the outcome is not clear.
No separate public Tennessee decision-results database comparable to the schedule was found. The Board of Parole public-record route or 615-741-1150 is the fallback. Schedule copies can be requested at BD.HearingSchedules@tn.gov. Eligibility under Tenn. Code § 40-35-501 depends on the offense, offense date, range, and sentence. Eligibility is consideration, not a promise of release.
District 31 Record Fallbacks
When FOIL does not answer the exact sentence or discharge question, use TDOC’s sentence-information channel. For a person in state prison, choose Offender Information and Sentence Information. For a felony offender serving a TDOC sentence in a county jail, include County Jail in the request. The sentence-information page lists fax 615-259-3783 and states that fax responses are mailed, so include a mailing address.
Historical offender files go through TDOC’s archived-record GovQA portal. FOIL technical help at 629-888-5870 or 888-890-8183 can address access problems, but technical support cannot make a legal or custody determination. A Board decision not clear in FOIL can be sought through the Board’s public-record process. Court judgments remain with the sentencing court.
No Macon County parole-absconder or supervision-warrant list was found. “Absconder” means an alleged failure to remain in contact or comply with supervision, not a new conviction. A warrant or revocation case can return a previously released person to custody, so a valid older release record can coexist with later incarceration. Verify the present status through FOIL, District 31, and the relevant court or Board record.
Confirm Macon Supervision After Release
Start with the custody that ended. For a Macon County Jail release, obtain the Sheriff’s booking and release entry and ask whether the destination was the community, TDOC, another jail, or a federal agency. Then use the court judgment to determine whether local probation or a state felony sentence followed. The Macon County release search covers that county-record path in full.
Next, match the person in FOIL and read the status, location, sentence, hearing, and release fields as a group. Contact District 31 only when the record points to state felony supervision or the proper reporting site needs confirmation. Do not route a misdemeanor probation question to Cookeville merely because the person once left the county jail.
Finally, distinguish active community supervision from discharge. Parole, determinate release, mandatory reentry supervision, and felony probation can all follow physical release. None alone means the sentence is fully complete. An inactive label may need a TDOC response before the endpoint can be described. The sound conclusion names the custody that ended, the supervision that followed, and the record that confirms each stage.
